2016. What a year! In keeping with the crazy parade of unexpected twists and turns this year (Brexit anyone?), we noticed some interesting new trends influencing year-end event planning. Can you guess what we saw? Have you booked your 2017 year-end venue?

Trend #1: RETRO VINTAGE THEMES RECALL WARM MEMORIES OF YESTER YEAR

This year, vintage rock and roll themes at closing events were all the rage as uniting teams behind past eras recalled happier and calmer times. From props to dress, music to food, with a vintage theme you can recreate a holiday theme from the 20’s to the 80’s and wow your crowd. Use features such as velvet furniture, the right band and DJ, catering touches like a mac n’ cheese station and carving stations, and pattern washes and uplighting throughout to highlight key décor elements.

Trend #2: ART IMITATES LIFE: GRAFFITI INSPIRED FUN

Another emerging trend we’re on top of is the integration of art into corporate events. Think of all the cartoons that inspired your childhood…graffiti art is just one step further in adding color, drama and an urban vibe to your company party. Engage working artists to create custom décor details. Enhance bars, buffets and dining areas and lounge areas with these artistic touches. Use an artist created set to provide a studio backdrop for a private photo booth to entertain your guests and capture their fun. Infuse color and creativity into your tabletop design.

Trend #3: BACK TO THE FUTURE: GO MODERN!

From self-driving cars to voice controlled appliances, the future will be another popular theme for year-end events in 2017. This year’s holiday events were jumping on the “back to the future” theme in spades. Perfectly tuned to Silicon Valley’s heritage of innovation and experimentation, these playful opportunities to imagine what a holiday in 2025 will be like are right on trend. You can use simplicity as an overarching theme. Use more lighting in the design concept versus in the actual décor for your event. Use layouts that are open and clean, modern signage designs (fonts and modern looks), and include an LED dancefloor to add a contemporary twist. Choose your musicians carefully and use today’s pop hits for their covers.
